Why did they leave their homes?
There are over 11 million displaced Syrians, much due to the conditions of their home countries. In Syria, for example, more than 5 years after their civil war began in 2011, 470,000 people have died and the Syrians face many other problems as well, such as a lack of food, terrorism, and numerous human rights issues (click here for more info). Over 70% live below the poverty line, 2.4 million people lack adequate shelter, 2 million children aren't attending school, 3 in 5 areas in Syria are sites of child labor in its cruelest forms, and the UN says that 6 million of the 13.5 million people that require humanitarian aid are children. In addition, ISIS have killed over 2,000 Syrians in 2015 and control large areas of the country.
